A high-level panel on Addressing Climate Change: the United Nations and the World at
Work was convened on 11 February, at UN Headquarters in New York. The meeting was assembled by the President of General Assembly who urged all the participants to support the negotiation process launched in Bali and to focus on immediate practical action through effective partnerships. Following the Panel meeting, Member states discussed the recently launched Secretary General’s report entitled: Overview of United Nations activities in relation to climate change. The report refers to the ISDR as a relevant and existing coordination mechanism, and the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) as an existing tool for disaster risk reduction, which need to be fully utilized in the context of climate change adaptation. The report emphasizes the importance of making accessible all existing disaster reduction tools and methods and information on best practices at the national and local levels.
