The EIIP is pleased to host a 'live chat' presentation and interactive Q&A session February 13, 2008, beginning at 12:00 Noon Eastern time (please convert to your local time). Our topic will be the "Principles of Emergency Management" published this past September. In March of 2007, Dr. Wayne Blanchard of FEMA's Emergency Management Higher Education Project, convened a working group of emergency management practitioners and academics to consider principles of emergency management. The group agreed on eight principles, that are being used to guide the development of a broader doctrine of emergency management.
Our guest will be roundtable member Michael D. Selves, CEM®, who originally sparked the discussion which ultimately led to the development of the principles. He saw a need to "...set forth the basic underpinnings upon which all courses (EMI, collegiate, etc.) in E.M. theory and practice would be based." Mike is the Past President of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), and he recently retired from his position as Director of the Johnson County Department of Emergency Management & Homeland Security in Olathe, Kansas.
Please make plans to join us in the EIIP Virtual Forum www.emforum.org . As always, feel free to extend this invitation to your colleagues. Please see the Background Page for links to related materials and instructions, and if this will be your first time to participate, please check your connection at least a day in advance by clicking on the Chat Login link at the top left.
