On February 26, 2003, The Global Institute for Energy and Environmental Systems
will host a Forum on Sustainable Development at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte
in cooperation with the ECHO Foundation (a non-profit organization) and with
the support of the Duke Energy Corporation (private sector).
This Forum, which will engage a critical mass of expertise and experience,
will be video taped and made available widely for use by private- and public-sector
organizations everywhere, is another indication of the importance and sense
of urgency now being placed on transforming dialog on sustainable development
into concrete and concerted actions having high benefit to cost ratios.
The Forum will focus on the critical issues (e.g., economic, environment,
energy, education, ecology, safety from natural and technological hazards)
associated with sustainability on all scales --local (e.g. Charlotte), regional
(e.g., State of North Carolina and eastern USA), national and global (e. g.,
all communities and nations comprising the seven regions of the world).
Additional information will be posted on the GADR web site and provided to
you after the Forum because YOU and other concerned LEADERS in your community
and region can adapt this model to fit specific needs and situations. This
is another example of the power of a global epistemic network for solving urgent
global problems that are too complex to be solved by any one organization working
alone.
