Warm Weather Spawns Unusual January Tornadoes
(
09/01/08
)
• Tornadoes have occurred in the Midwest in January before, but they are much more typical 4-5 months later in the Spring.
• These tornadoes occurred as a result of warm moist air moving in from the South and clashing with cold weather fronts moving down from the North.
• Record high temperatures for Winter were reported in 138 cities of the Midwest states
