Warm Weather Spawns Unusual January Tornadoes

• Tornadoes have occurred in the Midwest in January before, but they are much more typical 4-5 months later in the Spring.

• These tornadoes occurred as a result of warm moist air moving in from the South and clashing with cold weather fronts moving down from the North.

• Record high temperatures for Winter were reported in 138 cities of the Midwest states
