Volcanic Eruption: Jabal-Al-Tair Island, Yemenin

• The eruption began on Sunday, October 1, on Jabal-al-Tair (?Bird Mountain?).

• The island is one of a number of volcanoes that extend from the Southern end of the Red Sea spreading zone.

• Except for a military base, the island is uninhabited.

• The eruption ejected ash more than 300 m (1,000 feet) into the air.

• A portion of the Island collapsed.

• The rest was covered with lava that continued to flow.
