Landslide: La Jolla, CA - October 3, 2007 |
(03/11/07) |
• The 15 meter-wide-slide (50 yards) happened on Wednesday morning, October 3rd.
• It was caused by the instability of the hillside slopes,
• Not excessive water from rain or a broken water main, and
• Not ground shaking from an earthquake.
• The area was known to be geologically unstable and landslide prone as the result of a geologically old earthquake.
• Landslides had occurred in 1961 during construction of the homes and again in 1989 and 1994
• City officials had issued a warning two weeks before and again on Tuesday night before the slide occurred on Wednesday.
